Renewing sauna scoop / saunakauha uusiksi

Tein kauan sitten koulussa monen muun tavoin kauhan saunaan. Tein siitä aika pitkän, mitä muut ihmettelivät. Mutta se onkin ollut hyvä meidän aina valmiin kiukaan kanssa. Siinä on jokseenkin pieni reikä veden heittämistä varten.

A long time ago at school, like many others, I made a scoop for the sauna. I made it quite long, which others wondered about. But it has been good with our always ready stove. It has a rather small hole for throwing water.

Kahvaosa irtosi varresta tässä jokin aikaa sitten. En siitä kahvasta muutenkaan kovasti pitänyt, joten päätin tehdä sen uusiksi ja muutenkin kunnostaa kauhan.

The handle part came off the handle here some time ago. I didn't really like that handle anyway, so I decided to make it new and restore the bucket anyway.

Uusi kahva syntyi vaahterasta, jota oltiin kaadettu ja kuorittu puolisen vuotta aikaisemmin. Pinta on mukavan ryhmyinen, ja siitä saa mukavasti otteen.

The new handle was made from a maple that had been felled and peeled half a year earlier. The surface is nicely bumpy, and you can get a good grip on it.

Kattoikkunaspoileri / Roof window spoiler

Oltiin lähdössä pitkälle asuntoautomatkalle. Mietin miten saataisiin auto virtaviivaisemmaksi ja polttoaineen kulutus pienemmäksi?

We were to drive a long trip with our mobile home. I wondered how the caravan would be more streamlined to consume less diesel?

Auton katolla on ikkunoita ja muita laitteita. Yksi ikkunoista oli laatikkomainen. Miten saisin siihen eteen spoilerin?

We have some windows and other equipment on the roof. One of them was very boxy. But how could I create a front spoiler to it?

Kiersin varastojamme ja katse osui vanhoihin 3,5 tuuman korppujen laatikoihin. Korput oli kierrätetty jo aikaa sitten. Mutta laatikoiden yläosista tuli sopiva spoileri ikkunaan.

I walked in our storage and noticed we had some boxes for 3,5 inch disks. The disks had been recycled already. But the top parts of the boxes made a nice spoiler to the window.

Ja tällainen spoilerista sitten tuli.

And this is the final product.

Makkaratikkuteline / sausage stick stand

Vanha makkaratikkuteline oli saanut säistä pinttymää. Aluksi ajattelin, että vain hioisin vanhan telineen ja lakkaisin sen, mutta sitten tulin toisiin ajatuksiin. Päätin tehdä siis uuden telineen ja säästää vain makkaratikkujen metalliosat.

The old sausage stick stand has suffered from the elements. First I thought that I would sand the stand and clear coat it, but then I had another idea to redo it totally. I saved only the metal parts of the sticks.

Päätin tehdä telineen katajasta. Aikaisemmin olin jo tehnyt saunan ovenpielet katajasta, joten ajattelin tehdä samalla tyylillä.

I decided to make the stand from juniper. Earlier I had already done the door frame to our sauna from juniper so continuing the same style.

Ensin löysin hyvän kohdan laudasta.

First I found a nice part from a board.

Sitten piti löytää kahvat. Päädyin tekemään vain neljän tikun telineen, kun takan ympärille ei missään tapauksessa enempää väkeä mahdu. Samanoloisten kahvojen löytäminen oli yllättävän haastavaa.

Then I had to find the handles. I decided to make only four stick stand, since more people will never fit near the fireplace. It turned out to be hard to find equally alike handles.

Kahdenlaisia reikiä tarvittiin kahvoihin.

Two kinds of holes were needed in the handles.
