There was a time I wondered how computers could be added to log transportation equipment. And this is how it looks :)

Matkalaukkuhylly / a shelf for suit cases

Peruja saimme vanhan puhelimen, joka itse asiassa on täysi feikki. Kannen alta paljastuu numerolevypuhelin, jos joku vielä sellaisen muistaa. Käytännössä puhelimesta tuli plektravarastoni.

We inherited and old phone, which was a total forgery. It is a phone, but under the very old front there is a less old number plate phone. In practice the phone became my plectrum storage.


Mutta minulla oli vanha ruskea matkalaukku, jolle ei ollut paikkaa. Niinpä päätin pitää hauskaa: puhelimen yläpuolella oli tilaa, vain hylly puuttui.

But I had a small old suit brown suit case which did not have a place. So I thought I could have some fun. Over the phone there was empty space enough for the suit case, but I did not have a shelf.

Päivä rakentamispäätöksen jälkeen lähdin viemään kaatopaikalle romupuuta, jota ei voinut enää mihinkään käyttää, edes polttoon siitä ei ollut. Siellä silmääni sattui tämä huippuhieno huonekalu, oli pakko ottaa se mukaan.

The day after the decicion to make a shelf I took unusable wood to the local dump. There I saw this magnificent piece of furniture I had to take with me.

Sitten hajotin härvelin, mikä ei ollut kovin paljoa. Piirtämistä, sahaamista ja hiontaa. Kasasin vähän palasia yhteen ja nostin paikalleen.

Then I took it apart, which was not much. I started drawing, sawing, sanding. I did a pre-installation.

Näytti ihan hyvälle.

It looked ok.







Sitten petsasin hyllyn kaksi kertaa pähkinän värisellä petsillä. Kuvassa on myös pala alkuperäistä puuta, jota kovasti muokkailin.

Then I painted the shelf twice with walnut colour. In the picture you can see a piece of the original wood and how it has been modified.











Tässä kuvassa näkyy, miten hyllyn jalan kuvio on peräisin puhelimesta, jotta ne vaikuttaisivat olevan samaa sarjaa.

The foot of the shelf is modelled according to the phone to look to be of the same series.











Koko komeuden kruunaa pieni peritty matkalaukku.

The whole installation is topped with an inherited very small suitcase.

A juniper sword / katajamiekka

Isä rakenteli kaikenlaisia huonekaluja katajasta. Erään kerran häneltä jäi ylimääräiseksi noin metrin pitkä käyrä katajanpala, jota ei voinut mihinkään käyttää. Mietin asiaa hetken aikaa ja totesin, että teen siitä kaarevan miekan. Alkoi hurja sahaaminen ja hiominen. Lopulta siitä tuli aika kiva miekka.

My father used to build all sorts of furniture from juniper. Once a 1 meter long curved log was left over and he had no use to it. I thought it for a while and saw a sword in it. Then I started to saw and sad it which took quite a while. It turned to be a quite nice sword.

Ei valkoista vaan mustaa / Black not white

Kun ostin aikoinaan ikkunoita kierrätyskeskuksesta, niiden mukana tuli vanhanaikaiset haat, mutta ei niiden vastakappaleita eikä myöskään saranoiden toisia puolia. Onneksi saranat löytyivät Puuilosta ja ikkunahakojen vastakappaleet Metsänkylän navetasta.

When I bought the windows from the recycling center I got old style window hacthes with them. The counterparts luckily I got from local shops.

Alkuperäiset olivat valkoiset, mutta minusta hakojen piti sopia yhteen lampun ja seppätyylin kanssa.

 
The original hatches were white. But I thought black ones would match the blacksmith style of the lamp better.

Niinpä maalasin ne mustaksi.


So I painted them black.

Siniset ikkunat - blue windows

Kuistin yläikkunat tein 2 cm x 2 cm rimoista. Niihin sahasin sirkkelillä kolosia sinne tänne. Kaikkiaan kolottavia rimoja oli 56 kpl, suoria 28 kpl.








The upper windows of the porch were done of 2 cm x 2 cm wooden bars. I cut small holes here and there. Altogether there are 56 bars with holes, 28 solid ones.






Olin kokeillut ripustaa sinistä LED-jouluvaloa jo aikaisemmin kuistin yövaloksi. Päätin piilottaa sen rakenteisiin siten, että valo heijastuisi kivasti.

I had prototyped blue Christmas LED lights as the night light already previously. I decided to hide it to the construction so that the light would be reflected nicely.

Ensin piti tehdä reikiä siten, että valokaapeli makaisi yläikkunoiden alla kauniisti. Poranterä oli vähän liian pieni, joten jouduin tekemään uuden työkalun. Ostin halvan pyöreän puuviilan, katkaisin siitä kahvan irti ja hiotun terän kiinnitin porakoneeseen. Kahvaan hitsasin mutterin. Tällä vempaimella sitten laajensin reikiä sopivasti.





First I needed to drill holes under the upper windows to allow the cable to lay down. My drill was a bit too small, so I needed to make the holes larger somehow. I bought a file, cut it into two, attached the file part to a drill and welded the handle to a nut. With that I made the holes large enough.

Sitten sininen valokaapeli lähti kulkemaan reikien läpi.
Then the blue cable passed through.









Öisesstä kuistista tuli aika makee :)

From sewing machine to home teather / ompelukoneesta kotiteatteriksi

Background: In my youth I used a Singer treadle sewing machine quite a lot.The one I used was not good looking and surely not very expensive nowadays.
Taustaksi: nuorena ompelin aika paljon Singerin polkuompelukoneella, joka ei ollut mitenkään erkoisen näköinen eikä varmasti minkään arvoinen nykyään.

Kun siis perimme Singerin,

ajattelin rakentaa (piilottaa) siihen sisälle "kauniin" kotiteatterin, jonka blueray-levyt voisi laittaa sisään tuon etuseinässä olevan laatikon kautta.
I planned to install (hide) my "beautiful" home teather amp into it, the blue ray disks could be inserted throug the front box of the machine.

and install the subwoofer on the foot level.














But when I opened the Singer I had to change my mind. It turned out to be from 1927 and is so beautiful.









There are original documents, spare tools etc.
Löytyi alkuperäinen kauppakirja, käyttöohjeet, varaosat jne.












Now I need to find some other casing form my home teather.
Nyt pitää keksiä toinen tapa piilottaa kotiteatteri.
