Uusi työpiste / new workspace

Tuli aika päivittää kodin työpistettä. Ostin kaksi 27":n näyttöä ja uuden läppärin. Mutta eipä ne näytöt sitten mahduneetkaan. Alkoi tilan etsiminen, joka johti reijän tekemiseen seinään. Ensin sahasin seinälevystä pois palasia. Rakentamisen edetessä sahasin lisää ja lisää, kunnes sain riittävän ison kolon aikaisiksi. Sitten reikä alkoi näyttää tosi tylsälle. Äkkiäpä siitä sai vähän hauskemman näköisen.

It became time to update my workstation at home. I bought two 27" monitors and a new laptop. But the monitors were too broad. I needed to find more space. So I needed saw a hole into the wall. And then the hole got bigger and bigger until the monitors and loudspeaker fit. Then the hole started to look really boring. A lick of paint and it became much nicer.

Näytöt, näppis ja hiiri voidaan nappeja painamalla vaihtaa läppäristä toiseen jopa niin, että toinen näyttö on toisesta koneesta ja toinen toisesta. 

Monitors, keyboard and mouse can be switched just by pushing buttons from laptop to another even so, that one monitor is to the other laptop and the other to the other laptop.

Mutta tämä seinä.. näytöt eivät mahdu.

Maalillahan sen saa kuntoon, mutta on niin tylsää.

I made a new level for the new laptop and loudspeaker.

Tein seinään reikiä, jotta sain johdot piilotettua seinän sisään.

I drilled holes to the wall so that I could hide the cables into the wall.

Saunan kiukaan uusi nuppi / New handle to sauna stove

Saunan kiukaan tulipesän luukussa oli nuppina vain ruosteinen pultti, vanha musta muovipallo ei siinä kestänyt. Ropeli pyörimään. Löysin vanhan kulmaraudan ja sopivan mutterin. Sitten sopivaa puupalasta vuolemaan! Nyt on tukeva kahva, joka on mukavasti hieman korkeammalla kuin alkuperäinen.

The door of the sauna stove had as a handle only a rusty bolt. The original handle did not stay anymore. Thinking... I found an angle iron and a nut. Then I crafted a piece of wood as the handle that is now a bit higher than the original. Nice.

Vesisängystä asuntoautoon / From water bed to mobile home

Meillä on kiva sähkökäyttöinen porras asuntoautossa. Kytkimestä kääntäen se liukuu ulos tai sisään. 

We have a nice electric step in our mobile home. With the switch it slides out or in.

Jos moottorin käynnistää, kun porras oli ulkona, herää autossa hyvin inhottavaääninen summeri elämöimään. Sitten pitää äkkiä nousta etupenkiltä ja kääntää kytkimestä, mikä aiheutti lieviä hermoromahdusoireita.

If the engine is started and the step is out, a nasty sound fills the car. Quick jump from the driver seat was needed, frustrating.

Päätin siis asentaa rinnakkaisen kytkimen ohjaamon puolelle (sininen nuoli). Kuinka ollakkaan, alkuperäinen kytkin oli suunniteltu siten, että kun se oli keskipositiossa se maadotti moottorin kummankin navan. Mitä siis tapahtuu, kun toisesta kytkimestä antaa virtaa noille navoille? Sulakehan siitä palaa. Niitä meni muutama ennen kuin tajusin mistä oli kyse.

So I decided to build a parallel switch to cockpit (blue arrow). However, the original switch was designed so that when in the neutral position it earthed the electrical motor. So what happened when the parallel switch added electrical power to the earthed connector? Some burned fuses until I figured out what was happening.

Ei siis suorilta onnistunut, vaan piti etsiä jostain toinen sopiva kytkin. Näin monipuolisia kytkimiä ei ole helppo löytää, mutta löytyipä kuitenkin.

So no success but I needed to buy a similar switch to replace the original one. These switches are not se easy to find, but I managed.

Alkuperäinen kytkin oli saman kokoinen kuin tuo valokytkin oikealla puolella. Seinässä oli iso reikä, jolle piti löytää jotain, jotta pieni uusi kytkin siihen saatiin nätisti kiinni. Varastojen kätköistä löysin entisen vesisängyn lämpötilan säätimen. Sen kotelon etusivusta sain kivan kannen kytkimelle, kaupanpäällisenä kiva, mutta täysin tarpeeton, asteikko :)

The original switch was the same size as the light switch on the right. The wall had a big hole. Something was needed to be found to cover the hole and keep the new small switch. After a storage search I found a temperature switch of an old water bed. The front of that switch was nice for my purposes. On top we got a nice scale :)

Nyt ei tarvitse enää poistua etupenkiltä vaan kumpikin etupenkkiläinen voi vetää portaan sisään tuosta kytkimestä :)

Now when sitting in the front seat the step can be taken in with the switch and without a nervous breakdown :)

Jatkopöytä matkailuautoon / table extension to a mobile home

Piti saada asuntoauton pöytään lisää pituutta, kun oikeanpuoleiselta istuimelta ei ylettänyt syömään (tiedän kyllä, että pöytää voisi hieman siirtää oikealle).

From the right seat it was not possible to eat since the table was too short (I know that the table could be moved to the right a bit).

Aluksi poistin alkuperäisen pöydän ja tein hieman pienemmän uuden pöydän mäntylevyistä. Sitten lähdin etsimään sopivia osia. 

First I replaced the existing table with a new and a bit smaller table which I made of pine wood. Then I started looking for parts.

Niitä löysinkin eräästä minulle romuna tulleesta ompelukoneesta ja sen pöydästä. Samoin kapean osan saranat, joissa on jousimekanismi, löytyivät omasta takaa. 

Some time ago I had got a past due day sawing machine that provided these parts. The hinges that have a string mechanism I found from my junks.

Muutaman prototyypin jälkeen päädyin tällaiseen ratkaisuun. 

After some prototyping this is my solution.

Pöydän jatko on ajon aikana piilossa kuskin penkin takana alhaalla.

The table extension is hidden behind the driver when driving. 

Kun jatkoa lähtee nostamaan, näkee ompelukoneesta tulleet osat. 

When the extension is lifted the sawing machine parts can be seen. 

Käännetään jatko ensin ylös ja sitten vaakasuoraan. 

First the the extension is lifted up and then tilted horizontal.

Kapean osan saranat pitävät huolen siitä, että joko jatko on vaaka- tai pystysuorassa.

The narrow part hinges keep the extension horizontal or vertical.

Lukitusmötikkä pitää jatkon paikallaan. Tein sen vanerista, jotta olisi riittävän kestävä.

The locking mechanism keeps the extension in place. Made of plywood for durability.

Tämän verran mekanismista näkyy ruokaillessa, mutta se ei käytännössä haittaa ruokailijoita.

This much is seen from the mechanism during eating but in practice it does not matter.

Soutuvene ylös vedestä / row boat out of water

Jotta soutuveneen ei tarvitse lojua vedessä ja hiekassa,

sen voi parilla telalla ja lankunpätkällä nostaa ylös. Vene nousee yllättävän pienellä voimalla teloilleen.

it can be easily lifted with these equipment. Only a small amount of force is needed to get the boat to the dock.

Rantautumista helpottaa rannassa valmiina oleva köysi, jossa on valmiina karabiinihaka. Rantaan tullessa ei tarvita solmuja, vene vain hakaan kiinni.

Landing is easy with a rope that has a fixed hook. The rope is on the shore and always ready for the boat.
